Angela M. Powers, Ph.D. is professor and director of the A.Q. Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Kansas State University, one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in the U.S.

Angela has extensive international experience in media management research and graduate and undergraduate education including recent USAID engagements in the Middle East, working with universities and managers at major media organizations such as Al-Ahram in Cairo. Her appointment at the Media Management and Transformation Center in the Jönköping International Business School of Sweden in 2011 was to explore news media in developing democracies.

As a Senior Fulbright Specialist and Fulbright Scholar, Angela facilitated creation of one of the first master’s programs in communications in Lithuania at Vytautas Magnus University. She also held a visiting professorship at the University of the West Indies.

Research interests include influences on news content, leadership in media organizations and media convergence. Angela has produced nine book chapters, 17 refereed journal articles and more than 30 refereed conference papers at national and international conferences. She has held leadership position for professional organizations such as the World Media Economics organization and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Angela was assistant director of University Honors at Northern Illinois University where she was a professor in the Department of Communication for 14 years. She received the 1997 University Excellence in Teaching Award. Professional experience: television journalist for NBC and CBS affiliates in Illinois before receiving her Ph.D. from Michigan State University.
