Converging at Kansas State University

The days of getting all your news from the daily newspaper or the 6:00 p.m. news are over. Ask your friends how they become informed….and you are likely to get a number of different answers.

A newspaper.

Headlines on a cell phone.

The web.

A 24-hour news channel.

A podcast.

The methods of delivering and receiving the news have changed rapidly over the last few years. This has also changed the job of the journalist. As media outlets converge, many journalists have found they can no longer work solely in print or broadcast. They must be conversant in many ways of delivering information and understand the advantages and disadvantages of each one.

The Convergence Class at K-State seeks to do the same. The students take stories and tell them in a variety of ways, remembering at all times that the technology is only a tool…..and content remains king.
